Google has explained a big change about how they manage search results by including synonyms in keywords which might be used in search keywords. How will this affect your website position in Google search results??

Why is it important that Google can deal with synonyms?
Google targets to show the finest results for your search. To achieve this it’s very important that Google’s algorithms can understand the search keywords which you may use in the search query. One important factor of recognizing the words is to understand synonyms.

These are words which can have the same meaning, Example: “home” and “house”. People who are searching for “home improvement” might also be interested in websites which contains the keyword “house improvement”
But the issue is that some words can have many meanings. For example, “case” could mean “box” , “container” or it can mean “instance” , “occurrence” or example.

Google’s measurements show that synonyms affect 70 percent of user searches across the more than 100 languages Google supports.

What has changed?

According to the posting in Google’s official blog, Google has improved the way that they detect synonyms. For example, the algorithm can now find 20 possible meanings of the search term “GM”. GM can mean General Motors, George Mason in [gm university], gamemaster in [gm screen star wars], Gangadhar Meher in [gm college], general manager in [nba gm] and even gunners mate in [navy gm], etc.

Google also made a change to how the synonyms are displayed. The searched words and the synonyms are now displayed in bold in the search results. Web pages that contain only synonyms of the searched word can also be displayed in the search results.

Do you have to change your web pages?
If you have optimized your website as explained by our search engine optimization consultants and as explained then you don’t have to change anything. Here’s a reminder:

1. Think out of the box.
Don’t just use the technical terms that you use in your company. Think about the words that other people would use to describe your product. For example, don’t just use “rhinoplasty” but also “nose job” and “nose surgery”.
Our search engine consultants will help you to find the best keywords for your website.

2. Optimize different pages of your website for different keywords.
The more pages you optimize, the better. It is much better if one web page is highly relevant to one keyphrase than somewhat relevant to many keyphrases.

Don’t stuff a single page with keywords. The keywords should fit naturally in your web page content. Our consultants will help to find out where on your web pages you should use your keywords.

Different people use different words to find the same things. Use different ways to talk about your website topic and optimize as many pages as possible of your website.

Being listed with the right image for the right search term can bring the right visitors to your website. By taking a closer look at Google Image Search, we have listed below a few tips that could help you to get your images on Google’s first results page.

Why images can help you to get more visitors

Depending on your search query, Google displays several images along with the normal search results. For example, if you performed a search for the term “Graphic Design”, Google will display the search results of your query as shown below:

The images can be found either at the top or in between other search results, and they will be linked to their respective web pages. For examples, if you were to click on one of those images, you will be taken to the web page which shows that particular image.

How to optimize your images so that they can be found

If you are maintaining a website about graphic designing, wouldn’t it be great if an image from your website was listed on top of the normal search results? Your website will attract more visitors, whilst increasing the popularity of your site.

There are a few steps you can take to improve the position of your images in Google Image Search:

1. Give your image a file name that contains the keywords for which you want it to be found. For this example we will name the image as graphic-design.jpg, separating the words with a hyphen.

2. Give an Image Alt Attribute text which is descriptive. You can use the same keywords that you used for the image file name here. Hence, the Image Alt Attribute would be “Graphic Design”

<img src=“graphic-design.jpg” alt=“Graphic Design”>

3. You should use the Image Title Attribute in the same way too:

<img src=“graphic-design.jpg” alt=“Graphic Design” title=“Grpahic Design”>

4. Larger images have a higher probability of featuring more often on Google’s first results page. The larger your image is, the easier it becomes to get to the top of Google’s normal results page. Make sure to include the Width and Height attributes in your image tag to show search engines the size of your image:

<img src=“graphic-design.jpg” alt=“Graphic Design” title=“Graphic Design” width=“700” height=“500”>

5. Textual content before and after the image which appears in your web page is also an important factor that impacts the position of your image in Google’s Image Search. Therefore, the text “Graphic Design” should appear close to the image in that particular web page.

6. Ensure to optimize the rest of your web page for the chosen search term. If you optimize the complete web page for that certain keyword, it would be easier to get a good listing for images which are on that page.

7. Lastly, make sure that the image you optimized for your keyword also looks attractive. It would be pointless if no-one is interested to click on the image, even though your image can be found on Google’s first result page.

Google has indexed over a billion of images. If your image can be found for the right keyword, then this will help you get targeted visitors to your website. So, if you want your images optimized and attract more visitors to your website, then look no further because we at ExtremeWeb can help you achieve that.
